Land at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport and listen for your name over the loudspeaker like you might elsewhere — you won't hear it. Since 16 July 2026, the airport has dropped routine flight announcements as part of a "silent airport" policy, so finding your driver now depends on your eyes, not your ears.
Why the Announcements Stopped
Under the silent airport policy rolled out by airport operator TAV, only safety and emergency messages are still announced over speakers. Gate numbers, delays and boarding calls have moved entirely to the Flight Information Display Screens (FIDS) around the terminal. It's the same concept already used at many international airports worldwide, aimed at cutting terminal noise for arriving and departing passengers.
How to Actually Find Your Driver Now
Private transfer drivers used to be able to have you paged by name over the speakers. That option is gone. Agree on your meeting point before you even board your flight — which exit, which sign, which phone number. A properly run transfer company will track your flight live and text you something like "waiting at Exit 2" instead of relying on the old speaker system; treat that message as essential, not a nice extra.
Tracking Your Gate and Delays Yourself
Don't wait for an announcement while you walk to baggage claim — checking the nearest FIDS screen for your flight number is now on you. Gate changes and delays update silently on screen, with no sound to flag them. If your airline has an app, keep notifications turned on for one more layer of backup.
Where Your Transfer Car Is Waiting

Private transfer vehicles usually wait right outside the international arrivals exit, holding a name sign. That sign matters more than ever now — it's your main visual cue, along with whatever meeting point your driver shared in advance. When you book, ask for the exact waiting spot and, if possible, a location pin over WhatsApp.
Practical Tips: Charge, Watch, Wait
Charge your phone before landing — texting your driver is now the main line of communication. Check a FIDS screen once while you're at baggage claim to confirm your exit gate. You don't need cash for any of this, but you do need a way to send a message: airport Wi-Fi covers those first few minutes if you haven't activated local data yet.
Who This Change Helps, and Who It Confuses
Noise-sensitive travelers and business passengers who'd rather wait in a calm terminal come out ahead. Older passengers unused to reading screens, travelers who don't read Turkish or English, or anyone whose phone battery dies mid-flight can find the new system disorienting. If you're traveling with someone in that position, carry the meeting point written down rather than counting on an announcement to save you.
Extra Prep for First-Time Arrivals
If this is your first landing in Izmir, our Izmir airport guide covers the general terminal layout. Traveling with a baby or older relatives, our family transfer guide explains why locking down the meeting point in advance matters even more now. The silent terminal is really just a habit change — once you're used to checking a screen instead of listening for your name, you won't miss the old announcements.
