Trade fairs in Izmir are held at two main venues: Fuar İzmir in Gaziemir, about 10 minutes from the airport, and Kültürpark in the city centre, which hosts the Izmir International Fair every year in August and September. When planning a business trip, the first step is to find out which venue the fair is at and choose your accommodation accordingly.

Where Is Fuar İzmir and What Is It Like?

Fuar İzmir is an exhibition complex opened on 25 March 2015, built on a 337,000 m² plot in Gaziemir. Made up of seven blocks, the site is about 10 minutes from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport.

This proximity is a big advantage for visitors: you can arrive on a morning flight, be at your stand by the afternoon and fly back in the evening. During the fair, hotels in Gaziemir and around the airport are closer to the venue than those in the city centre.

When and Where Is the Izmir International Fair?

The Izmir International Fair is held every year in August and September at Kültürpark. Its origins go back to the Izmir Economic Congress of 17 February 1923; the first exhibition opened in 1927, and the international fair began in 1936.

Kültürpark is in the city centre, within walking distance of Alsancak and Konak. For this fair it makes sense to stay in the centre; see our Kültürpark and where to stay in Izmir guides.

Where Can You Follow the Fair Calendar?

Fair dates are set anew each year and sometimes change, so check the current calendar on the official websites of the organiser and Fuar İzmir. If you are exhibiting, add the set-up and dismantling days to your schedule; transport needs on those days are different.

During big fair weeks, hotel occupancy and airport traffic in Izmir rise. Booking accommodation and transfers a few weeks in advance gives you an edge on price and choice.

How Do You Plan Transport During Fair Week?

For transport during fair week, this plan works well:
- Airport to hotel: a fixed-price transfer with flight tracking.
- Hotel to venue: traffic builds in the morning and evening; leave early.
- Moving a team and samples: for several people and large luggage, a vehicle carrying 9 passengers and 5 pieces of luggage.
- Meeting clients and guests: a personal name-sign welcome at the airport.

What Should Visitors and Exhibitors Keep in Mind?

Time and energy are limited on a fair trip; these preparations make the day easier:
- Carry business cards, catalogues and samples in your hand luggage, separate from your suitcase.
- If you are building a stand, confirm with your logistics company when materials are delivered to the venue.
- Fair venues involve a lot of walking; bring comfortable shoes and a spare phone battery.
- Holding client meetings in hotel lobbies near the venue cuts time lost in city traffic.
- If your return flight is on the evening of the last fair day, allow at least two hours for dismantling and traffic.

What Can You Do in Izmir Between Fair Days?

If you have a little time after the fair, Alsancak Kordon is good for an evening walk and dinner, and the Kemeraltı Bazaar for shopping and history. Kültürpark also hosts events in summer such as the Izmir Culture Road Festival.
